Doctors
Dr. Charles Curie - Doctor
Dr. Charles Curie is a native of Jefferson, Ohio. He attended The Ohio State University, where he studied animal science as an undergraduate, and then completed his graduate work in Veterinary Medicine in 1978, graduating with the honor of being named the most outstanding large animal clinician in his class. Immediately upon graduation he returned home to Ashtabula County, Ohio.
From the very beginning Dr. Curie has practiced Veterinary Medicine with a passion. His career has evolved from a strictly agricultural to a highly motivated companion animal practice. He tirelessly pursues his vision of excellence in primary pet health care and client service.
Dr. Curie has been recognized nationally for his leadership and innovation in practice management and efforts to increase client compliance in order to better serve his patients. He currently is engaged in lecturing at Veterinary continuing education seminars, and as a private consultant in these areas.
His greatest treasure is his staff! The staff is the practice. Period. They are the best staff on the Planet, second to none!!!!
Dr. Diane Veale - Doctor
Hi! My name is Dr. Diane Veale. I grew up in Broadview Heights, Ohio south of Cleveland. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from The Ohio State University, I attended the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1986. I spent three years working at a farm/small animal practice south of Pittsburgh before escaping from Steelers/Panthers territory and returning to Browns/Buckeyes territory. In 1989, I married Mike Hiener, an Ohio State graduate from Marietta, Ohio, and we moved to the Cleveland area. We eventually settled down in Ashtabula County when I joined the Country Doctor team in 1995.
Mike and I live on a crop/vegetable farm in Denmark Township. I also keep a flock of around 25 laying hens. We have three dogs (Molly, Gabby and Buddy) and eight cats (Brother, Louise, Tater, Spud, Pumpkin, Cooper, Wally and Archie).
During the school year, junior and senior high school students who are interested in a career in veterinary medicine get to spend one day observing life at the Country Doctor as part of a job shadowing program. One of the questions I get asked is "What do you like most about your job?". The answer is always the same. I love people and I love animals so what better job could there be than working with animals and people who love animals. I am blessed to spend my working day with the truly extraordinary staff at Country Doctor and our wonderful clients and their pets.
Hospital Manager
Sue Nines - Hospital Manager
Hi! I'm Sue and I am the Hospital Manager at the Country Doctor. I have been here for over 13 years now but it seems like yesterday! I don't know where time goes. I have done every job at the Country Doctor sometime in my 13 years and have enjoyed each one of them. I really enjoy my current position because it's easy. Yes, easy because the staff and doctors are all wonderful people. Each one of them have a special quality about them that contributes to the Country Doctor. I feel blessed that I work with a great group of people.
On a personal note I have been married to Dave for 22 years and we have 2 boys, 1 daughter-in-law and a new grandson! We also have many pets including a horse, 2 dogs and 4 cats.
Sometimes clients that have been coming to us for many years are surprised when they see me because they don't think I work here anymore! I do but I spend alot of time in the office (there is so much to do behind the scenes!) but I still love to work with the pets that walk through our doors and their owners.
Veterinarian Assistants
Ashley Parker - Veterinarian Assistant
Hello! I'm Ashley, employed here at the Country Doctor for almost 6 years now. I was hired in as a Vet Assistant. I'm on my fourth year of online classes to earn my associates degree as a registered Veterinay Technician. Boy has that been an exciting journey. Animals and nature have always been one of my deepest passions, even when I was a young child. I think animal lovers just have a natural gift that can not be learned. Either you have it or you don't. I've always wanted to work and be involved with animals, but never dreamt that I would actually be doing it. I have met so many great people and pets here. I often wonder how I got so lucky.
Andover is actually my hometown, born and raised. I graduated from PV in 2001. It's crazy how life flies by so fast. I can not believe I'm almost 28 already. I just try to enjoy everyday as much as possible. I enjoy spending time with my family. It's hard to balance time between work, school and my personal life and relationships. I also enjoy spending time at home. My husband, Tom, and I moved to our current house in Rome, OH about 3 1/2 years ago. It's perfect for the 2 of us... and our "extended" family. We have 4 cats: Blackie, Franklin, Whisky and Opy. Rubi and Bogg are our dogs. We also have 2 Pekin ducks: Helga and Rambo. I also have 2 cats, Snow and Elektra, at my parents house in Andover along with my cockatiel Peetree. There are pictures of all of my "babies" on the website under "employee pets". I could write a story about every single one of them... but I only have so much room to write. (hehe)
Well... I hope you've enjoyed reading a little about me. I look forward to seeing you in the clinic. Hopefully we will be the first name that comes to mind when you need any professional veterinary services... if we aren't already!
Carly Myllymaki - Veterinarian Assistant
Hello, I'm Carly. I am one of the veterinary assistants here at Country Doctor. I have been here for 5 years. I have four previous years experience as a veterinary assistant. Currently, I am enrolled in on-line classes to achieve my Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology. It is great to have a position that gives me such an opportunity to continually expand my knowledge and skills.
My husband Jason, son Dylan and I moved to Plymouth Township and bought our first house almost 2 years ago. We have three dogs, BoBo, Remington, and Ellie Mae who love to find trouble in the woods surrounding our house. We also have three cats, Hayley Sue, Roxi, and LaMont. They love to watch the wildlife from inside.
Leanne Warren - Veterinarian Staff
My name is Leanne and I have been working at Country Doctor since April 2009. I currently have five "kids". Two dogs: a mini dachshund, Bailey and a siberian husky, Gixxer. Two cats: a calico female, Jack and an orange male, Theodore. And a retired thoroughbed gelding, Jet.
I graduated from Pymatuning Valley High School in 2005 and attended Thiel College for a year after that, majoring in Biology. Starting next year, I will be enrolled with Tri-C for my veterinary technician schooling.
My husband, Jimie and I currently live in the out skirts of Jefferson. Back in 1996, my family and I moved to Andover, Ohio where Jimie and his family were our neighbors. Thirteen years later, in April 2009, I married the boy next door.
Charlie Nines
Hi my name is Charlie and I have been a part of the Country Doctor team for many years, you see my mom "Sue" used to bring me into work with her on occasion. Dr. Curie got tired of seeing me working without being paid that he decided to add me to the team! I started officially as kennel staff and basically a jack of all trades. I am currently training with the other assistants to try and help them when we are busy. I'm enjoying my new duties and learning alot!
I am attending Lakeland Community College and have aspirations of becoming a radiologist. In my spare time I enjoy playing music!
