I am an Ashtabula County native. My family has been here since the 1800s. They came here to farm and raise their families in the beautiful wooded North Country of Ohio. After graduating from Ohio State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978 I decided that my ancestors had the right idea and I too returned home to raise a family and practice veterinary medicine.
The faculty at OSU bestowed upon me the great honor of being the most outstanding large animal veterinarian in the class of ’78. I practiced large animal medicine and surgery almost exclusively for the next 20 years. I had built the Country Doctor Veterinary Clinic in 1983 and my associate veterinarians attended to small animals for many years while I stayed focused on the areas of dairy and horse farms.
In 1996 a horse that I was working on attacked me and severely injured my neck. I was forced out of large animal practice and transitioned into small animal medicine and practice management. I love this every bit as much as my large animal days.
Over the years our clinic has evolved from a premier large animal practice into four premier small animal practice which has been nationally recognized for excellence in patient care and practice management. The original clinic is the Country Doctor Veterinary Clinic in Jefferson, Ohio. In 2011 we opened the Geneva Veterinary Clinic on South Broadway in Geneva, Ohio. The Conneaut Creek Veterinary Clinic opened on West Main Road in Conneaut, Ohio in 2015, Ashtabula Harbor Veterinary Clinic on Lake Ave. in Ashtabula, Ohio in 2018. Collectively we call ourselves the Country Doctor Family of Veterinary Clinics.
I truly believe that our incredible Doctors and staff deserve most of the credit for our success. I have had the privilege of working with many amazing people over the years. This has been the greatest pleasure of my long career. If you think about it; a veterinary clinic is just brick, mortar, medicine and equipment. Every clinic has the same 'stuff' and offers the same services. It is the people that set it apart. I have been blessed with the greatest Doctors and staff on the planet! Our continued success and growth are a testimony to these dedicated individuals who have such a passion for helping people and their animals.
The clients have been wonderful as well. We have over 60,000 clients in our database and I can truly say that it has been a pleasure to know and work with so many people who are dedicated to their animals. We are really in the people business……..the animals don’t bring themselves to the Vet! Thankfully through the people, we get to meet and help so many wonderful animals.
In closing, I would like to thank each and every Doctor, staff member and client both past and present who have made the Country Doctor Family of Veterinary Clinics the outstanding animal health facilities they are today.
Hi! My name is Dr. Diane Veale. I grew up in Broadview Heights, Ohio south of Cleveland. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from The Ohio State University, I attended the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1986. I spent three years working at a farm/small animal practice south of Pittsburgh before escaping from Steelers/Panthers territory and returning to Browns/Buckeyes territory. In 1989, I married Mike Heiner, an Ohio State graduate from Marietta, Ohio, and we moved to the Cleveland area. We eventually settled down in Ashtabula County when I joined the Country Doctor team in 1995.Â
Mike and I live on a crop/vegetable farm in Denmark Township. I also keep a flock of laying hens and also raise a meat chickens. We have two beagles (Lucky & Otis) and three cats (Noel, Friend & Black Kitty ).Â
During the school year, junior and senior high school students who are interested in a career in veterinary medicine get to spend one-day observing life at the Country Doctor as part of a job shadowing program. One of the questions I get asked is 'What do you like most about your job?'. The answer is always the same. I love people and I love animals so what better job could there be than working with animals and people who love animals. I am blessed to spend my working day with the truly extraordinary staff at Country Doctor and our wonderful clients and their pets.
Hello, I am Dr. Overberger! As an Ashtabula County native from Hartsgrove, I started working for Country Doctor as a Veterinary Assistant in 2016. My passion for veterinary medicine was established while working as a dog trainer, training bird dogs for AKC hunt tests at Amberwood Kennel in Ashtabula County.Â
I received my Bachelors of Science in Biology at Bowling Green State University in 2018, and went on to graduate from The Ohio State University with my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2022.Â
With years of hands-on experience in small animal practice, I am committed to elevating the standard of care. My veterinary interests include Soft Tissue/Orthopedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Behavior Modification.Â
During my free time, I can be seen renovating our 1940's home with Dr. Brianna Farber (also a veterinarian), as well as taking care of our son, two dogs (Cece & Annie), and three cats (Clyde, Millie & Elle).Â
Hello, Ashley here! This year marks 20 years as an affiliate of The Country Doctor Family of Veterinary Clinics. It's been a fun filled 20 years and I honestly wouldn't change a thing! I have connected, empathized and cared about animals big and small ever since I can remember so I am right where I belong. The best parts of my days are helping clients feel welcomed, valued, heard and prioritized!! Also making our patients feel welcomed and loved!! Bonus: I couldn't have been luckier to find such an amazing work family to spend these days with. I am here, there and everywhere as far as my current status and responsibilities go. I plug in where I am needed and do many management tasks in-between.
My down time is spent at home with my family. I married my high school sweetheart (Tom). We have two pretty awesome kiddos: Dawlton (13) and Korra (8). We share a fairly large extended family of rescue babies: 2 Rottie brothers Hardee & Reuben, (7), Pittie Mix Walter (10),and another Rottie Roger (1.25) 7 cats Opy (15), Tiny (13.5) , Olive (11.5), Worm (4), Marvin (3.5), Ricky Bobby (3), and Mystery (8m). Our door is always open for pets that need a fun, loving place to reside while we help them enter the next chapter in hopefully finding their forever home. The kids are always excited when they hear Mom is bringing something new home.
My time at Country Doctor has been beyond rewarding. The patients and owners I have met and bonded with over the years is one I treasure most.
Hello, I'm Carly. I have been with Country Doctor for almost 19 years. I started as a receptionist and I am now part of the management team. Depending on the day I may be part of daily office hours, surgery or wherever I am needed. A lot of my time is spent doing the behind the scenes work. I have truly learned so much. It is great to have a position that gives me such an opportunity to continually expand my knowledge and skills.
My husband Jason, son Dylan and I live in Plymouth Township, we have lived there for 16 years. We have a crew of four-legged babies too. We have 3 dogs, Kimber our Pit Bull mix, Reggie our Rottweiler, Rawling our Pit Bull Mix and our 2 cats Wookie & Jared. We also have chickens, a garden pond with goldfish and 2 fish aquariums.
Outside of work I spend time running a travel baseball organization (Young Bucks Baseball) and am a board member and volunteer with Jefferson Area Little League.
I look forward to with working with you and your pet when you visit the office.
Hi, I'm Karen, and I am so excited to be part of the Country Doctor family. I am from West Springfield, PA., and have had the opportunity to work in the veterinary field for the past 30 years. The relationships with people and their pets and that special bond we all share with them continues to bring me the greatest joy! I share my life with a very special Aussie, 'River'. She enriches my life in more ways than I can know. I am truly blessed!
I look forward to getting to know you and your 'family', so come on in to Country Doctor, and share a story (or two!). I'd love it!

Hello, my name is Sierra and I've been with the Country Doctor family since 2018. I was hired just before graduating high school with A-Techs 'Small Animal Care' program. My family includes 3 humans - my husband Cody, and our two kids. My pets include Cinder (Dalmatian), Ammo (Labrador Retriever), Ellie (German Shorthaired Pointer), and our newest addition Penny (Standard Poodle). I also have chickens! I am always looking to learn whenever I can in this field and recently, really got intersted in the surgery aspect.
I look forward to meeting you and your fur babies and helping in any way I can!
Hello! My name is Sam. I have been a lifelong resident of Ashtabula, and I am a 2008 graduate of Lakeside High and Atech. I joined the Country Doctor team in January of 2020 as a Veterinary Assistant, and I have learned a lot form the awesome people that I work with. I am constantly learning new things every day. Speaking of learning, I also attend Penn Foster for a degree in Veterinary Technology. I have always had a passion for taking care of animals from a young age and always knew that this would be the field for me. I am greatly honored to be here and extremely thankful for the opportunity to work with the talented people that I get to work with daily.
During my downtime, I love being outdoors, walking my dogs, going to cool places, and hanging out with friends. I live at home with my mom and husband, and between to three of us, we have a small zoo. We have 2dogs: Rilee a Chocolate Lab and Harley a Boston Terrier, and eight cats: Jinx, Lucy, Smokey, Marvin, Jack, Trouble, Snowy, and and the newest addition Inky. Hi, my name is Karlee, but I'm better known as JJ when I'm working in the clinic. I have been an Ashtabula County native for my entire life, growing up in Jefferson and now residing in Conneaut. I grew up around farm animals, hunting dogs, barn cats and huskies: so the love of animals was something I knew I had from an early age. I currently have a small zoo: lots of cats and dogs, a tortoise, a few snakes and a lizard. I have a special interest in herding breeds (I'm a Border Collie mom!), fostering, behavioral cases and training. I am enrolled via Penn Foster to become a registered veterinary technician and work outside of the clinic on dog training.
I look forward to seeing you and your furry family!

When I started Dr. Curie said it would take 2 years for things to start connecting. I have had to overcome many challenges over this time, but it is a great place to work and it is close to home. Country Doctor is family and friends. I hope to continue working here until I retire.Â
